Morever, there appears to be a certain limit to this supposed immortality as the Knight can get Killed Off for Real in the "Dream No More" ending, but it is once again not elaborated upon. However, the nature of this ability is never properly explained anywhere in the game or out, and it's also made clear it's something no other Vessel is capable of, as in the Abyss most if not all of Knight's siblings are reduced to Shades while neither the Broken Vessel nor the Hollow Knight show signs of reforming their shells after they are destroyed. It is made apparent by the comments of a few NPCs the Knight's deaths and subsequent returns are not simply gameplay mechanics, the Knight really does lose its shell only to reform and return Back from the Dead each time. The Knight's Resurrective Immortality.Jinn in the Steel Soul run lampshades this if you refuse to give them a rancid egg. However, certain player-decided actions seem to disprove this: It can do quests that serve no direct purpose in completing its own mission (such as saving the grubs and taking the flower to the Mantis daughter's grave) and even act in ways that no one ever requested of them, such as giving the flower to other NPCs like Elderbug. Likewise, the Knight is supposed to be completely mindless, with no will to break and no mind to think. ![]()
